Karen Grave

President,
Public Services People Managers Association (PPMA)

Karen has worked in HR and OD in public and private sectors in a career spanning more years than she cares to remember. She is passionate about public services, believing that well run public services are critical to how well our society runs. For her, the workforce is at the heart of everything public servants do. Whilst technology, policy and processes have a huge role to play, none of this matters without engaged, committed, passionate and productive workforces. She is committed during her term to continuing with ongoing PPMA work to raise and develop our collective professional voice so that every decision taken about the what, why and how of public services harness the inherent passion, creativity, innovation and commitment of the broader public service workforce.

  • Outlining PPMA’s #outoftheshadows campaign which looks to support HR professionals across the public services to tackle bullying, harassment and victimisation at work
  • Examining the key issues around bullying in the workplace, the role of HR professionals during the reporting stage and the impact it has on an organisation’s culture, performance, finances and reputation
  • Sharing guidance and best practice approaches on how HR personnel can effectively respond and undertake the complaints process
  • Highlighting key lessons learnt throughout the campaign so far, including the need for robust training for HR professionals and the importance for HR departments to be approachable and not an advocate for the organisation
